Endometriosis is a benign, chronic disease in which the lining of the uterus migrates out of the uterus and settles in various places in the abdominal cavity. They grow during the cycle and bleed during menstruation. An estimated 8-15% of all sexually mature women suffer from endometriosis. Every second woman with an unfulfilled desire to have children suffers from this disease.

There is no correlation between the severity of the disease and the extent of the symptoms. Some women have very mild symptoms or no symptoms and still suffer from endometriosis. In this regard, the disease often appears only by chance or when infertility is researched for causes. Others have strong symptoms and very few endometriosis lesions.

Symptoms can be treated with medication, surgery or laser procedures. The type of therapy depends on the patient's age, family planning, symptoms and the location and size of the endometriosis lesions. With the minimally invasive laser procedure ELLA by biolitec®, the endometriosis lesions as well as ovarian cysts and adhesions are removed in a very gentle manner and with few side effects during laparoscopy. The special benefit of ELLA is that the laser energy is so gentle that it contributes to the preservation of the ovarian reserve, which is particularly important for patients who wish to have children.
