Jena, November 27, 2007 - In Germany, approximately 22 million people are affected by venous diseases. Most of these are varicose veins which are caused by an insufficiency of the venous valve. Approximately 300 000 operative varicose vein treatments are carried out annually in Germany, predominantly by means of vein stripping. The disadvantages of this operation method for the patient can be the formation of painful haematomas and operation scars in the groin area or in the area of the hollow of the knee, amongst other things. The resumption of normal physical activities can also take a few days.
