Affected blood vessels with a diameter of up to 3-4 mm or bronchial tubes with a diameter of up to 3 mm can be relevantly closed during surgery thanks to the high thermal intensity and relatively good additional absorption of the 1470 nm wavelength in hemoglobin, which allows for surgery without significant blood loss. However, the main advantage of modern laser surgery on the lungs is the efficient preservation of healthy pulmonary tissue in the area around the tumor and the possibility of a resection of central sites.
